Fine Sand 

Fine sand is a type of granular material composed of small mineral and rock particles with grain sizes ranging between 0.075 mm and 0.425 mm. It is finer than medium sand but coarser than silt, and is typically light in color, ranging from white and gray to tan or brown, depending on its mineral content—primarily quartz, with traces of feldspar, mica, or iron oxides. Fine sand has a smooth texture when dry and a slightly gritty feel when wet. It is non-cohesive and non-plastic, meaning it does not stick together without the presence of moisture or binding agents. Its moderate permeability makes it useful in applications that require both drainage and some water retention. Commonly sourced from riverbeds, beaches, or manufactured from crushed rock, fine sand is widely used in construction—for plastering, mortar mixes, tile bedding, and light concrete—thanks to its workability and smooth finish. However, due to its lower load-bearing capacity and ease of erosion, it is not ideal for heavy structural foundations unless stabilized or mixed with other materials.
